500GB Sky DRX890w Sky+HD Box (Built in Wi-Fi)

The Sky DRX890w Wi-Fi enabled 500GB Sky+HD box looks almost identicle to the original DRX890 but does have a couple of changes internally.

What's New?

WiFi is now built in
All new Sky+HD boxes will have built in WiFi, this will allow customers to connect the box to broadband without using external adapters or Ethernet cables for access to On Demand with the UK's biggest Catch-Up TV service. Entertainment Extra (EE+) and HD Pack customers can also access more TV box sets than ever before, Movies customers can also choose from over 800 On Demand movies.

Removal of the RF Port
The new DRX890w model has has some of the components removed. One of the removed components is the RF Modulator (Aerial in and RF1/RF2 Out). This means any customers that currently pipe Sky around the home using an RF distribution system will no longer be able to, due to the Aerial input and RF1 and RF2 out now being removed accessories such as the Sky TV Link (Sky Magic Eye) will no longer work.

However; Sky have replaced the missing RF in and out with an IO Port, this will allow you to continue feeding the Sky signal from the new Sky+HDw box around the home providing you install a Global iO Link in to the IO Port. You can find out more information and purchase one here - Global iO-Link.

Appearance
The new DRX890w Sky+HDw boxes have one minor (apart from the connections on the back of the box) cosmetic change, and that is a WPS button on the front of the box (see image).

The name still remains Sky+HD.
The DRX890w now has built in Wi-Fi so that you can connect the box wirelessly to a broadband router.
With built in Wi Fi its now even quicker and easier to connect the Sky+HD box to broadband for On Demand without the need for Ethernet Cables or the purchase of another WiFi device.
It is a market leading 500GB of storage box.
It has great benefits - Sky+ functionality, HD and 3D ready and On Demand including the UK's largest Catch-Up TV service.
They are also set up to use the enhanced features of the Sky+ app such as using a mobile or tablet as a remote control.
