* Fully independent source selection
* Unique parental control features
* Maximum cable lengths over 750 feet
* Simple to use and set up
* Highly cost effective

The revolutionary AViLYNX from Global Communications (UK) Ltd, is designed to distribute high quality video and audio from multiple sources (using CAT5e cable) to multiple viewing & listening locations.

Using the dedicated AViLYNX IR remote control, from any connected viewing location the user is able to independently select any AV source. The user can then control the source with the AViLYNX remote control. The system can be set with control on a room priority basis or alternatively set to "walkabout" mode with no priority control.
Unique to the AViLYNX are three parental control functions that maybe setup at installation and made available at priority locations 1 & 2

* Me View
Allows the viewer to lock out a source device to all other viewing ports other than that being controlled by the viewer. No other viewing station is then able to view or control the locked source until control is returned at that location.

* Peak a View
Allows the viewer to temporarily monitor what is being viewed at another viewing station connected to the system.

* No View
Allows the viewer to inhibit all output to a selected viewing station connected to the system.

Essential Components
Hub
The server is the heart of the system with all source kits and room kits being routed to & from the unit. The server can be supplied as either a 4 source/4 room unit, 4 source/8 room or alternatively as an 8 source/12 room unit.

The server routes a selected source output to the viewing station along with the controlling IR commands. Since source selection is totally independent for each viewing location it enables multiple sources of "like" equipment to be viewed & controlled independently.

The server is supplied with a pre-programmed "universal type" database of IR codes which allows the server to convert the incoming AViLYNX IR commands from each viewing station into correct IR commands for each source. The server can be programmed with the code for each source from any viewing station; there is also a learning function, whereby the server can be programmed to control equipment, which was not included within the database.

The server can be set to enable the control of the sources on a descending priority basis.

Viewing station kit
The viewing station kit consists of viewing station adaptor with integrated IR detector module together with an AViLYNX IR remote control unit

Source kit
Each video source is connected to the hub via a dedicated source kit. The source kit also enables the source to be controlled by the hub using the included IR blaster, which has to be positioned in front of the IR receptor on the source device.

Line extender kit
This is required if the source is remotely located from the hub, it extends the maximum distance from the hub to the source up to the full 750 feet.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions And Answers

Welcome to the AViLYNX general questions and answers section. These questions have been collected from people using the web site and from telephone calls. If you don't find the answer to your question here, please email us at info@avilynx.com.

Please let us know if you encounter any problems or have any suggestions for how this page can be improved.

1)
I read that AViLYNX system uses CAT5e Cable. What is CAT5e Cable and do I have to use it?
CAT5 or Category 5 is a description of a networking cable that consists of four twisted pairs of copper wire.
Whilst the AViLYNX actually only requires a cable which has four twisted pairs of wires we would recommend that the install is done using CAT5e cable as this is ideally suited for audio/video distribution. The CAT5e cable must be unshielded.

2)
What are the Maximum number of viewing points I can have on the system?
The number of viewing stations or TV's that can be connected to the system is determined by the size of the server installed.
The largest server available is a 8 input to 12 output unit. This means that a maximum of 12 viewing points can be connected to the system

3)
Can I increase the number of Viewing stations or Source points by stacking AViLYNX servers together?
It is not possible to increase the number of viewing points or source devices connected to the system by simply doubling the number of servers and still maintaining the full functionality of the system.
There are possibilities of increasing the number of viewing stations connected to the system but much of the functionality and control is removed in doing this. If you require further information on how this can be achieved, please contact our help line number.

4)
I have my computers networked around my home. Can I connect the AViLYNX to this network?
Whilst the AViLYNX system uses the same distribution cable around the home as a computer network, they are not compatible systems. The AViLYNX does not transmit data in a digital format in the same way as a computer might carry data.
In order to free up the CAT5 cable used with the computer system for AViLYNX distribution one solution might be to transfer the computer network system over to wireless. With the current technology available, a wireless computer network system in the home can be set up very easily and at an affordable price. This obviously free's up the structured cabling for use with AViLYNX which requires cable in order to deliver high quality audio/video.

5)
How does my existing aerial system fit into the AViLYNX system?
Since the AViLYNX system is designed to distribute composite video around the system, it is unable to distribute UHF frequencies.
If you wished to distribute standard terrestrial channels you would need to also install a separate coaxial UH F distribution system or alternatively distribute the UHF signals via the source equipment.

6)
Will I need to make up RJ45 Patch Leads?
The system is supplied with pre-made patch leads that will allow you to connect between the source and server and between the Viewing station and wall plate.
It is unlikely you would need to make up any further patch leads, but if you do require more, you can purchase the tool and connectors necessary from our Online Shop to allow you to make more up.

7)
Can I use conventional Patch Panels with AViLYNX?
There is no reason why you cannot use CAT5 Patch panels with AViLYNX providing you do not connect AViLYNX connections into Computer Connections or vice versa.

8)
Is AViLYNX compatible with High Definition television?
The current AViLYNX system is designed to distribute composite video so as such cannot at the moment handle High Definition signals.
One thing to point out is whether distribution of High Definition television is actually necessary. The reasoning behind this being that in order to receive HD via a distribution system, all the televisions in the home would need to be HD compatible. Whether someone would wish to discard ALL their current TV's in order to be able to view HD is debatable.

9)
Can I plug my Stereo into the AViLYNX?
Providing your stereo has a line output there is no reason why you cannot connect the stereo to the AViLYNX system for distribution around the home.
The musical output will be heard through the television speakers in each room.

10)
I have a DVD player with a built in surround sound amplifier. How can I connect this into the AViLYNX system and still get surround sound?
Where it is required that the source equipment is to be further than 3 metre's away from the server unit, the line extender modules will need to be added as in the diagram below.
With the line extenders fitted, the source device can then be up to 200 metre' s' away from the server unit. In the case of the surround sound DVD player, you are now able to locate the DVD under your main TV with surround sound and still have the DVD on the AViLYNX distribution system.
Obviously in this case it would also mean running a further CAT5e cable into where the DVD is to be located.

11)
How far can my TV be away from the Server Unit?
Each viewing point can be connected to the server via up to 200 metre's of CAT5e cable.
We have tried cable lengths in excess of 200 metre's but whilst this seemed to work quite well we are unable to guarantee the quality of the picture.

101)
How does the AViLYNX system control different source devices using the same remote control?
The AViLYNX reads the codes in from the AViLYNX remote control and converts them into infra red signals that the source equipment can understand.
When the system is set up, the installer will assign each source input on the AViLYNX with a code taken from a look up table supplied. This table will give an individual number for the most popular modern audio video products on the market and the installer will program these numbers into the AViLYNX.
Once the source device has been set up in the AViLYNX server, when the server receives the infra red command from the AViLYNX handset it will convert it into a infra red command the source device can understand and blast this code at the front of the device.

102)
What happens if my source device is not contained in the AViLYNX library?
If the source device you are connecting to the AViLYNX system does not have a code number contained within the AViLYNX data base it is possible to have the AViLYNX learn all the remote control codes for the device and thus allow remote operation.
If the power is switched off to the server, the key codes learnt will remain un-affected and stored in the memory of the server.

103)
How do you select different source devices with the remote control?
Source selection from the viewing location is controlled from the AViLYNX handset.
Pressing buttons 1 to 4 will switch between the first four sources. As you select the source number it will flash once indicating it is selecting a number between 1 and 4.
Should you have the larger server installed then pushing shift followed by buttons 1 to 4 will actually result in you changing between source devices 5 through to 8. In this case the source number button will flash twice indicating it is selecting a shifted source i.e. 5 to 8.

104)
I have lost the library codes for source devices. What can I do?
Please source code Library on manufacturers main site.

105)
Can the AViLYNX remote control operate my TV?
Yes

106)
Can I stop others on my system watching what I am watching?
Yes you can stop others in your home watching the same source as yourself providing that this feature has been implemented when the AViLYNX was installed AND you are watching from priority location 1 or 2.
Simply hold down the source button number on the remote control for the source you wish to inhibit. After a 2 second pause you will hear an audio bleep on your TV which indicates that you are now the only location able to watch that source.
To release this feature, simply select a different source from your handset.

107)
Can I use my existing remote controls with my AViLYNX system?
There is absolutely no need to use your existing remote controls. All of your source equipment can be controlled by your AViLYNX handset.
